BELLE VERNON – Mayor Gerald Jackson II and borough council honored the local group, Our Brothers Keeper, during an awards ceremony at the borough council meeting on Nov. 19. Our Brothers Keeper is a Mon Valley area group that calls attention to the issue of veterans’ suicide and aids in helping veterans in need.

On Veteran’s Day, Our Brothers Keeper staged a 22 mile walk throughout the Mid Mon Valley in an effort to call attention to the issue of veterans suicide and to let their brothers and sisters know that they are not alone, no matter what the circumstance. The 22 mile walk ended in the Borough of Belle Vernon.

Our Brothers Keeper, a nonprofit organization, was started in 2022 by two local veterans, Army Veteran John Dora and Marine veteran Steve Molek. During this year’s walk, Dora managed to complete 14 miles with a broken foot.
