BELLE VERNON – At its regular council meeting ion Dec. 17,  Council President Joseph Minniti directed the council to begin the process of creating a Comprehensive Plan for the Borough of Belle Vernon.  Mayor Gerald Jackson II said that it has been nearly 25 years since the borough adopted a Comprehensive Plan, and is in support of a new plan for the future of the borough.

Creating a comprehensive plan is important because it will serve as a roadmap for the borough for the future.  Developing this plan will include the input of elected officials, community members, residents and other stakeholders.  Once the plan is created, the results will direct council as to the priorities needed to be undertaken to ensure the vitality of the borough into the future.  A Comprehensive Plan also opens the borough to the possibility of different state and federal revenue streams to address the issues of community development, blight and economic development.

Council is hopeful to partner with neighboring communities in a joint effort to develop a cohesive comprehensive plan that will benefit each.
