On Friday, September 20, 2024, Fayette County commissioners issued a burning ban throughout the county. It will be in effect for 30 days. After 30 days, the situation will be reassessed and commissioners will make a decision to continue the ban or lift it.
The outdoor burning ban was put in place for the health and safety of people in Fayette County. The resolution for the ban set penalties of $100 for the first violation; $200 for the second violation; and $300 for the third violation.
The Commissioners said area is suffering from drought conditions. Under the resolution passed, campfires at campgrounds that are confined and contained are permitted as is outside grilling.
